    1 January 2009 - Telephone Consultation Specialist

With Swine Flu cases likely to increase over the coming autumn/winter period, a lot of pressure will be put on both GP’s, Hospitals and NHS Direct. It is the Government’s plan to have a dedicated Telephone consultation service for Swine Flu but as of yet, the service has only received a fraction of the calls that they expect during the winter months.

With any Telephone Consultation service, the aim is to take the pressure off GP’s and hospitals and allow them to get on with their day to day duties. This is a great idea which will only work if the service is implemented correctly, Information about the service is distributed quickly to the people who need it and if the staff are trained well in holding Telephone consultations.

The telephone consultants will not be medically trained so detailed training is therefore vital to get the best from them and to allow them to deliver a service that the NHS can be proud of.

Sally-Anne (CV attached) is an expert in Telephone Consultation Services in both implementation and training. Sally-Anne is extensively experienced in Out of Hours Primary Care Services and has been consulting and training clinicians and non-clinicians in telephone consultation within Healthcare environments. Sally-Anne’s effective communication and influencing skills have helped develop and implement validated quality assurance systems related to Telephone Consultations. Sally-Anne is highly experienced in Risk Management work within Telephone consultation/Triage areas and ensures a patient focused approach.
